Ukrainian Alphabet
There are 33 letters in the Ukrainian alphabet: 22 consonants, 10 vowels, and 1 letter that doesn’t designate any sound – the “soft sign” (ь) which softens the previous consonant. The apostrophe (‘) does the opposite, it shows that the preceding consonant should be pronounced hard.
Ukrainian is easy to read, as one letter generally corresponds to one phoneme. In other words, letters are read in the way they are written.

The first written records of the Ukrainian language date back to 448 AD. Ukrainian language (українська мова) is an East Slavic language of the Indo-European language family. Ukrainian is close to many other Eastern-European languages, such as Polish, Slovak, Czech, Croatian, Bulgarian etc.
